Angels with our outfielder

02 June 2006
No more than 20 minutes after my last post, Adam came in and woke me up with some shocking news. He said that late on Thursday night, Ben was driving towards St. Louis and he saw a semi truck coming at him pretty fast. Once he saw it a couple of seconds later, he veered sharply to get out of the way. The truck plowed through other cars that were close to him, and spun him out of the way of the truck.

Apparently the truck killed some people in the 6 car collision. Ben was extremely lucky that he only suffered a separated shoulder and some other minor injuries. Steph's dad came and picked him up, and I guess they are all safe in Kansas City right now.

It sounds like the Mazda is totaled, some golf clubs were crushed, but this is probably the least of his and his families worries.

Everyone here is sad for the others, but relieved to know that Ben is still with us. Adam said it best: "I know that we just lost our roommate here .... but I never thought that we would really lose him."

All thoughts and prayers extended to Ben and his family.

Early web news story.
