Fire down below

22 June 2006
I forgot to mention this. Around 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, while I was working at Sandhills, the fire alarms went off. These things had all of the bells and whistles that Abel did without that voice reminding you, "Attention. Attention. An emergency has been reported."

After getting out of the building and walking up the hill to do our department head count, we realized that it was taking a while, and this was no drill. Something was going on inside the building. As we waited around 10 minutes for the fire trucks to show up, we all thought it was pretty strange since they were located right down the street.

They came, and 30 minutes of a paid vacation standing on concrete in the 95° heat later, we were finally given permission to go back inside and complete our work. They said a motor burned up in the air conditioning unit above the ceiling tiles. This was fitting because on the exact same day, they had a safety meeting for our department (which details where to go in case of emergencies) AND the air conditioning people just arrived before it happened for their annual checks to make sure that stuff like that doesn't happen.
