Fixing a Sony Vaio NW broken LCD screen

12 September 2010
A few months ago, we left our laptop on the couch and Stan jumped up there and stepped on the top of it. For a few weeks or so, there were small red dots and just a few red lines that we told ourselves we could obviously live with. As the weeks went on, each time that we opened it, the lines became more and more aggressive and started to consume the entire screen. With this, it was either buy a new LCD screen, or get a new laptop.

Since I'm about as cheap as they come, the choice was obvious. Now it was just time to follow an online guide as to how to actually do this without ruining the laptop. The first step was pretty simple: remove a few screws and begin to pry open the outer bezel for the screen:

After that, it becomes more important where you are touching to make sure that you don't damage the new LCD screen when you put it into place.

After a few unsuccessful tries, the screen popped into place, and everything looks normal again. The only small setback is that my screen dimmer no longer works, but since the screen was at 100% brightness, I really can't complain about that:
