Only in slow pitch softball ...

16 April 2011
In our second game last night, I turned an unassisted triple play. Yes, you read that right, a triple play in slow pitch softball.

To make it even better? I was playing first base. Now spin your wheels on how this would even be possible. Here's the breakdown:

Runners on 1st and 2nd with zero outs. The guy at the plate hits a high pop fly right over our pitcher's head. Neither runners move, along with AP at 2nd, as we all assume the ump was going to call an infield fly rule. I run over to catch the ball since no one else moves and our ump doesn't say a word. With this, I pick up the ball, step on 2nd and then run over to first to tag the runner there. Just like that, 3 outs in a matter of seconds and we're off the field.

Good thing too since we were down 18-4 at that point and that was about the only highlight of the night.

With this, I might have to update this old blog post. I really didn't think I would be part of a triple play ever again (as a coach or player) ... especially in slow pitch softball!
