A quick twelve hours in NYC
02 April 2017
Christi heard that Sara Bareilles was doing a 10 week stint on the show Waitress so we booked tickets as soon as we could. Because, you know, our April isn't crazy enough as it is ...
As soon as we got a babysitter, thank you Jamie!, we started thinking of other things we should do in our short window while we were in the city. The first thing was to be able to meet up with some friends we never get to see. Luckily Dheerja and Nick were available so we met them for lunch. Clancy was in town so we met up with him too, because you know, sitting by the guy for 8+ years means I don't get to see him enough! Dheerja picked an awesome ramen place called Ippudo which will probably be haunting my taste buds until I get a chance to go back there. After lunch and a round of beers down the block we were off to the show (luckily just a few blocks away).
When we booked the tickets for Waitress obviously this was more for Christi and not me. We even had the quick discussion that I should go do something else for those 2.5 hours since I probably wouldn't like the show as much as her. I thought with such a short amount of time together down there that it'd be best if we spent every minute together. Christi has done a good job of picking shows in the past that she knows I will enjoy, like The Book of Mormon, The Producers, Avenue Q, etc. With this one though, it was all about her and really wanting to go see Sara Bareilles live. Honestly, my perception coming in wasn't great and thought it'd be a real chick-flick type of show. Some great jokes, a few swear words and five minutes into the show I was singing a different tune. Overall, it turned out to be a really good show that I enjoyed and next to Sara starred Brian from the last season of The Office.
Once the show ended, it was off to dinner. When we saw The Book of Mormon Christi had a good idea to catch the 2pm show so that we wouldn't be rushed for dinner and it's probably what we'll do here on out as it has worked out great on multiple occasions. Before we planned our trip, Christi took a poll from some people for where we should eat and we basically narrowed down the list to ones closest to the theater district.
After some quick Yelp reviews we settled on Quality Meats. Since we moved to Connecticut in 2008 I have ordered a steak at a restaurant exactly three times before this trip. I remember each one vividly since it's so rare I do it because my parents are absolutely amazing about acquiring us fresh steak from back home that is really better than most things we can get around here. Out of those three times, two were pretty amazing experiences so we had some high hopes for Quality Meats joining this list. It delivered ... and then some. I get that NYC is chalked full of amazing restaurants but we've been extremely lucky to enjoy some amazing ones during our visits.
As for that busy April I was talking about earlier? Well, get ready for a lot more posts in the next few weeks.
