College football award time (week 1)
04 September 2005
Upset of the day: TCU topping OU at home. Sucks that your top Big 12 contender falls early, but every Husker fans loves to see OU take a hit early.
Heisman Disappointment: Adrian Peterson. 63 yards on 22 carries against the "stout" TCU defense in Norman. A 150+ day might've sparked some life in the Sooners, and may have contributed to a win on opening day.
Heisman Props: Matt Leinart. I hate to give it to the guy, but he had a great day: 18/24, 332 yards and 3 TDs after he got done tanning by the ocean.
Heisman Watch: Brian Calhoun. Who the hell is Brian Calhoun? This Wisconsin Badger ran wild through the Bowling Green defense as he accumulated 248 yards and reached the end zone with the ball in his hands 5 times.
Biggest Disappointment: (tie) The 77,469 on hand to watch the Maine - Nebraska game should have brought pillows and sleeping bags to Memorial Stadium. What a disappointment the game was in general. 25-7 over a I-AA school? Where we scored a touchdown defensively, one on a punt return that started us on the 2 yard line, and we had 4 field goals. Not a fun game to be it. Plus, it took almost 4 hours to complete (thanks to the new "instant" replay, and Maine using all 3 timeouts in the last :30 of the game).
Biggest Disappointment: (tie) Wisconsin's new helmets. These things are hideous. I mean just horrible. I can't even believe ... ok, you just look at them yourself.
