College football award time (week 3)
18 September 2005
Upset of the day: Michigan State over Notre Dame (44-41 - OT). Overtime games are always thrilling, especially when the hyped up home team gets beat in overtime on their field by an unranked team. What made it even better was Jason Teague strutting into the endzone to silence the fans at North Bend.
Heisman Disappointment: Adrian Peterson. His 58 yards on 23 carries might have actually helped UCLA send Oklahoma under .500 .... for the second time this season. Don't be surprised if I don't use his name on the Heisman watches here in the following weeks!
Heisman Props: Matt Leinart. This west coast bum lived it up in his first home game passing for 381 yards and 4 touchdowns. The pro-style quarterback even scored one with his legs.
Heisman Watch: Sam Keller. Congrats to Sam for making this list two weeks in a row. Pretty soon we are going to move him up from the watch to the props. Sam showed that his 400+ performance last week wasn't a fluke as he did it again throwing for 409 yards and 4 touchdowns. What were Leinart's numbers again? Were they better than this?
Biggest Disappointment: This weeks award goes to no other than Oklahoma. Way to show up this year and get dropped out of the top 25 in the 3rd week of play. So much for Big XII dominance this year. I guess the tides are turning when Baylor is undefeated and the Big XII north is an astounding 14-1 after week 3.
